Zaqy Mohamad, the newly appointed Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs in Singapore, has committed to engaging deeply with the Muslim community to better address its needs following his recent appointment. This change in leadership occurred after Faishal Ibrahim resigned from his political roles, including his positions in Parliament and the People’s Action Party, on July 20. The resignation was a result of a lapse in judgment related to Faishal’s interactions with a female member of the public, as explained by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

In his initial statements, Zaqy emphasized his intention to collaborate closely with the M3+ network, along with volunteers and community partners, to enhance programs that support and uplift the Malay-Muslim community in Singapore. He acknowledged the significant work that lies ahead and stressed the importance of continuing to build on the progress already achieved within the community. Zaqy assured that dedicated support for the community would remain a priority.

Zaqy also expressed his sadness over Faishal’s departure, reflecting on their two decades of working together. The circumstances surrounding the resignation have been met with disappointment by several Malay-Muslim lawmakers and community leaders, who also recognized Faishal’s contributions during his tenure in office.
