Việt Nam and Singapore are set to enhance their political trust and expand strategic coordination, as both nations look to bolster cooperation in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This comes ahead of a state visit by Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm to Singapore from May 29 to 31. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường, the bilateral relationship between the two countries has moved beyond traditional economic ties and is now focused on future-oriented sectors that contribute to long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.

The elevation of the Việt Nam-Singapore relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025 underscores the growing political trust and shared strategic interests between them. Singapore is a key economic partner for Việt Nam and stands as its second-largest foreign investor, participating in thousands of projects across diverse sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. A noteworthy symbol of this cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is advancing towards greener and smarter industrial models aligned with sustainable development goals.

The two countries are also strengthening collaborations in areas like artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are being made to connect innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks across both nations. Economic cooperation will be a central theme during Tô Lâm’s visit, alongside increased collaboration in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development.

Initiatives such as “Tech Connect” aim to forge stronger links between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies in sectors including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit is anticipated to support the next wave of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Việt Nam. Additionally, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a significant security forum in the region. Vietnamese officials have described this invitation as recognition of Việt Nam’s growing international stature and its commitment to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
